Who will you share your sandwich with?
Ever wonder how a stranger can impact you and vice versa? Sara had an enlightening experience as she was taking her group through the Grand Canyon this past week.
A couple asked her how far to the bottom of the canyon. They wanted to go down and back up in the same day. Sara asked them all the right questions: About their gear, their water, external power source, and all checked out. She found out they were just there for the day. Their only time to have this experience. They lived in South Korea. Then Sara asked about Food and they said they didn’t have that. Sara reached in her backpack and gave them her sandwich. When they protested, she said you have this one day to enjoy this spectacular excursion. You must do it. You need the sandwich more than me.
On their way back up they bumped into Sara and her group who were still making their way down. The appreciation and gratitude the couple had for Sara, the experience, the joy on their faces and their positive feels for the United States was overwhelming.
The lesson was big: Giving some time of ourselves to another can transcend how people see the world, the person, and the country – a reminder to give of ourselves to others can have a ripple effect. They will then give to another and so it goes.
What is your sandwich going to be today? Even small gestures can create a positive impact in the world. Let’s do it!
