So many of us feel guilty when we take time for ourselves. We think we are taking time away from our children or loved ones and wind up feeling guilty. Often, we go away and spend the time feeling guilty instead of using the time to fill ourselves up. Sara’s solo episode talks about how important it is to in fact take that time—with no guilt.

Am I Hurting Others by Taking Time for Me?

So many of us feel guilty when we take time for ourselves. We think we are taking time away from our children or loved ones and wind up feeling guilty. Often, we go away and spend the time feeling guilty instead of using the time to fill ourselves up. Sara’s solo episode talks about how important it is to in fact take that time—with no guilt.

She put that into practice and sticks to it by taking some time away from home on her own at the end of August. She uses it to recharge and come back invigorated, excited and appreciative.

She shares her 3 tips for reasons it’s important to take time for ourselves without the guilt:

  1. Recharge. Children and loved ones can take a lot of energy from us, no matter how much we love them.
  2. Models healthy behavior and boundaries for our kids. They see us taking time and doing what brings us replenishment and joy.
  3. Strengthens relationships. It allows others around our children to fill in and create other bonds with them. And for us and our kids or loved ones, a renewed appreciation for us and us for them.

So, go ahead and prioritize yourself for the needed time, whether it’s a day or a week. Do it without guilt, do something you love or something you know you need, and reap all the rewards for yourself and also those you come back to.
